Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup sea palm, wild nori, or wakame, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seed
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 ½ cups black or brown sesame seeds
  • 1 cup raw sunflower or pumpkin seeds
  • ½ cup raw hempseeds or pine nuts
  • ½ teaspoon mineral-rich salt

Instructions
 

  • Put a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Dry roast the sea palm, fennel, and coriander for 1 minute.
  • Reduce the heat to medium. Stir in the sesame seeds and roast for 3 minutes.
  • Stir in the sunflower seeds and hempseeds. Dry roast for 3 more minutes, until highly aromatic.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the salt.
  • Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, then transfer to a food processor and process until ground.
  • Store in an airtight glass jar at room temperature for up to 3 months.

Notes

Note: Gomasio is a traditional Japanese macrobiotic condiment meaning “salt and pepper” or “sesame salt.” Use it the same way you use salt.
Ayurveda Every Day Tip: This recipe decreases Vata and balances Pitta and Kapha. To reduce Pitta and Kapha, halve the sea palm and salt.
